The village of Candelara has ancient origins. Small and charming suburb of the town of Pesaro, it offers a striking landscape rich in history, culture and art.The Latin word “Candelaria” is probably linked, according to the historian Luigi Michelini Tocci, to “festum candelarum”, i.e. to a light source, a fire, a lighthouse.”
In fact, the emblem of Candelara shows three hills surmounted by three candles. This is inspired by the legend that, to locate the place on which to build the village, three candles were lit and in the less windy place, where the candle did not blow out, the town finds its right location to be built.
This charming village has become famous in the world thanks to the Christmas market “Candles in Candelara”. This unique event combines the charm of a medieval village to the enchanting atmosphere created by thousands of lit flames replacing artificial lights.

The evocative colors of Candelara and the enchanting atmosphere you can breathe during the event of “Candles in Candelara”
Thanks to scheduled shutdowns of public lighting of 15 minutes each (at 17:30 and 18:30), Candelara remains illuminated only by the warm and reassuring candlelight.
The XI edition of Candles in Candelara started on 29th November 2014 and will continue untill 14th December 2014 (you can save the following upcoming dates in December: Sat 6th/Sun 7th and Mon 8th; Sat 13th and Sun 14th).
From this year, during the scheduled shutdowns, there will be some fireworks and in the meantime some bright ballons will be lift off and magically be lightening the sky above village.
Another news of this year festival is the “Snowy Alley”: a small road in the village, where artificial snow will be fired and where everyone will be covered by soft foam.
There are many attractions for children who will certainly love the party. Definitely a must for fans of candles, as there are of every shape and color.
We have been enchanted by the charm of this village and its fantastic and magic event!
