Le Marche region is not only rich in art, history and culture, but it also offers a variety of culinary delights. We’ve already shared with you some local recipes from the tradition recently. Today we want to tell you about a recipe of the Christmas time: a delicious dessert, very easy to bake, which only needs natural ingredients!
The “Pizza di Natale” (aka:”Xmas Pizza”) is a typical dessert, all the grandmothers from Le Marche will provide their own special recipe. We’ve chosen the one suggested by Grandma Eda, who has been preparing it for over 60 years. Her customers have been following her for all this time thanks to the simplicity of the recipes and the quality of ingredients.
Are you ready?
Vegetable oil: ½ cup salt
Walnuts: 3 and a half ounces
Whisk water and flour slowly and make a dough.
Add a pinch of salt and mix well with the oil.
Add the yeast and knead until creating a soft mass, without granules… let the dough stand in the refrigerator for 5-6 hours.
Meanwhile, prepare the walnuts: shell and chop them. Pull the dough out of the fridge, add the walnuts and put it back in the fridge for about half an hour covered with a cloth.
After this time, take the dough out and put it into molds of various shapes, as you prefer. Let it rise out of the fridge for about an hour.
Place in oven at 200/220 degrees and bake it for 45 minutes.
There are many other variations to the classic recipe. For example, you can add cheese, raisins, dried figs, orange peel, sugar … but this one is the classic and original from the tradition.
