We start this article in an unusual way, since we want to remind our readers the crucial role of bees for the environment: they contribute to the conservation of the natural environment through their pollination. And in our journey aimed at discovering the secrets of a centenary life, we’ve arrived in Pievebovigliana, “City of Honey”! The participation of this municipality to the national association “City of Honey” means a firm commitment to the safeguard and protection of the territory. Honey has been appreciated since ever and has often been called as “food of the gods” in the legend of many cultures. This nectar can be used not only in cooking, but also for aesthetic purposes (due to its high moisturizing power) and medicinal benefits. The high concentration of fructose and the natural way of its production, allows honey to supply the body with immediate calories not bad for health, and to stimulate the activity of the nervous system. Different types of local honey are produced in Pievebovigliana: from the “Millefiori” honey (rich in vitamins and good for strengthening the immune system) to the “Chestnut” one (able to strengthen and protect heart and to comfort digestive problems), the “Acacia” honey (good for babies since it helps breathing and bad sleep, and also has calming properties) to the “Honeydew” one (rich in minerals, it is an excellent source of iron).
Pievebovigliana is located in the province of Macerata, close to the Sibillini Mountains, and is a small town of only 894 inhabitants. Despite its small size, Pievebovigliana boasts beautiful landscapes, impressive art and terriffic food able to recap just in one location most of Italian peculiarities.
Pievebovigliana is a charming town, surrounded by a beautiful and unpolluted environment, rich in streams, lakes, wide valleys and mountains. This balanced landscape creates a unique environmental area.
Thanks to those features, the municipality of Pievebovigliana earned, in 2006, the EMAS registration and the “Bandiera Arancione” (aka:”Orange Flag”).
EMAS is a European entity, which aims to contribute to the achievement of eco-friendly economic development, highlighting the role and responsibilities of companies and administrative bodies.
The Orange Flag is a reward issued by the Italian Touring Club. It certifies the highest standard of quality to tourists, through a very welcoming and eco-friedly environment. The achievement of the reward is based on several criteria including: the promotion of cultural heritage, the safeguard of the environment, the culture of hospitality, the availability to resources, the quality of tourist accommodation, catering and local products.
Recently, the municipality of Pievebovigliana also joined many other associations including: “Symbola – Foundation for Italian Quality”, “Organic City”, “LICOR-Association of Cities producing liqueurs and spirits in Italy”.So, we are not surprised, when we find out that the Italian TV show “Linea Verde” (aka: “Green Line”) has recorded an episode in Pievebovigliana to tell about the virtuosity of this small but incredible town!
A sincere thank to the Municipality of Pievebovigliana for their special contribution!
