The Italian Lifestyle has always been considered iconic, a garantee of quality and excellence. Despite this time of severe economic crisis, Italy is still top rated abroad when it comes to food. It is actually seen as the ‘mecca’ of good taste. However, the data show a considerable turnover on the counterfeiting of made in Italy products.
Too often, even here in the United States there are many knock off foods, which are “mistakenly” listed as coming from Italy. Most consumers trust names or symbols that recall to Italy on their labels so they are convinced to buy an Italian product. This phenomenon has been called “Italian sounding”… when a label “sounds” Italian but it is not, though!
It affects our most representative goods, influencing consumer expectations and causing serious damage to the image of Italian quality in addition to an economic loss of income to our producers (something like 60 billions in revenue!) For example, if you just consider the New York market, there is a presence of “Italian sounding” food ranging from a minimum of 14% to a maximum of 49% of the total available on supermarket shelves; the majority of which is misleading about their actual country of origin.
Olive oil is one of the most counterfeited products. That’s why Discovermarche is particoularly proud to talk about the ‘Fattoria Petrini’ today.
Fattoria Petrini is a family-run agricultural company that produces prize-winning organic extra virgin olive oils in the ancient hill of Monte San Vito in the province of Ancona.
Fattoria Petrini is very well-known internationally and locally and is today confirmed as leader in the field of Marche olive growers. All olives are not chemically treated and they’re harvest at the right ripening degree from their olive groves and worked inside their oil mill, thus assuring the control of the whole production process, from start to finish.
We met Francesca Petrini who reveals what it means to be Testimonial of the Marche region in the world during the upcoming event of Expo 2015 (Milan, Italy starting on May 1 – Oct 31 2015)
“I have the privilege and honor through my personal story, to tell about a territory and the production of olive oil in the Marche region. This is as very important heritage of our regional agriculture. In the last twenty years, after decades of slumber, the olive oil made in the Marche has started to flourish again, thanks to the great quality of products appreciated in the most prestigious competitions in Italy and abroad.
My company really stands for this sort of Renaissance of the olive oil, having produced the first single-variety oil in the Marche, which has earned over the years a large number of prizes and the most important awards.
Our olive oil is the result of an evolution in craftsmanship able to enhance specific skills and to keep alive one of the oldest traditions of making high quality and organic olive oils.
Thanks to the special climate of the Monte San Vito area – located on the hills the area get the influence of seabreeze from the Adriatic Sea and healthy air from the Sibillini Mountains- our olive trees are in the perfect place and make healthy, tasty and high-quality olives.
Precisely these features, along with other healthy considerations, made our family think about the possibility of an ecological way to produce olive oil. We finally came to the idea of starting following an organic farming regime in 1991.
Over the years, I started to consider the olive oil not only as a simple seasoning but also as a very healthy dietary supplement, able to support useful substances to the body, particularly in the bone metabolism. Thus the Petrini Plus was born, an extra virgin organic olive oil with unique nutritional peculiarities. It is enriched with vitamins D3, K1 and B6 to favour the calcium absorption and fixation into the bones.
Facing one of the most critical problems of adulthood, like osteoporosis and bone diseases, the Petrini Plus was awarded by the Sodalitas Social Award in 2006 and, in 2014 I was recognized by the ITWIIN National Award as the best inventor, being this product secured by an international patent. This olive oil is unique in the world!”
Our congratulations to Francesca, for being the Ambassador of the Marche region in the world, during the international upcoming event of Expo 2015 (Milan – Italy) and for producing such a unique extra virgin olive oil! And a great thank you to the Fattoria Petrini for their great effort in representing the best of Italian excellence and of the Marche!
