Risorgimarche: music and solidarity in the places of the earthquake

“A shaking of the surface of the Earth, resulting from the sudden release of energy in the Earth’s lithosphere that creates seismic waves. It can range in size from those that are so weak that they cannot be felt to those violent enough to toss people around and destroy whole cities. The seismic activity of an area refers to the frequency, type and size of shaking experienced over a period of time.”

This is the definition of the word “earthquake”.
This is what happened to my land.
There are towns and villages that, once I’m back to Italy, I will not be able to see anymore since the do not exist any longer.
There are friends who live in a house that does not belong to them, because they were forced to leave their own home.
There are children who must learn too early that tragedies in life really exist, not just on TV.
There are old people who will never see the places where they were born and lived for a lifetime ever again.
There are broken dreams.
There are non-existent hopes.

And then there is “Risorgimarche”.
It is not a novelty that the Italian actor Neri Marcorè, who is originally from Le Marche region, still has a strong connection with his region.

Recently, he has been the face of some commercials in support of Le Marche (check out the hilarious video below)  and now, we are happy to tell you about his project in support of this land battered by the earthquake.

Risorgimarche is an invitation to come to Le Marche and to discover a still little-known land through a series of musical concerts.
Some Italian artists like Luca Barbarossa, Fiorella Mannoia, Malika Ayane, Daniele Silvestri…and many many others, will perform in different locations tin Le Marche and make people discover our enchanting region.
Every event will start around 5pm. This timetable is designed to protect the environment, exploiting the natural light and thus preserving the places that will host these concerts.

Solidarity is important, but it is even more important to give people the opportunity to resume their lives and to continue with their own strength.
Here’s the goal of Risorgimarche: to let tourists fall in love with the natural beauty of Le Marche region.
It is through the revival of the tourist flow that is the recovery.
So, thanks to all the artists that will volunteer to this project and wil offer moments of leisure for a good cause. They will attract visitors from outside of the region and let them admire the beauties of which it is rich.

Il “Guardian” inserisce Le Marche nella top list 2016 delle mete internazionali da visitare

Che bella sorpresa!

Ho ricevuto due giorni fa una telefonata inattesa: la mia carissima amica Johanna mi ha contattata da Londra per assicurarsi che avessi letto la notizia…Il famoso quotidiano britannico ‘The Guardian’ ha pubblicato un nuovo articolo nella sezione dei viaggi, indicando tra le migliori mete consigliate per il 2016 la Regione Marche! (per l’articolo originale cliccate: qui)

…Eh no, non avevo ancora letto l’articolo! Mi sono subito collegata con la curiosità’ di scoprire quanto anticipatomi. Sempre più spesso si sente parlare del nostro territorio: una terra ancora poco esplorata e quindi non ancora invasa da milioni di turisti, come altre mete del nostro paese. E forse è anche questo uno degli aspetti che cattura i viaggiatori: scoprire qualcosa di nuovo, di non scontato. E fuggire dal tremendo caos delle grandi città.

Mentre scorrevo le righe dell’articolo, ho ricollegato anche la notizia che avevo appresa dal giornale locale riguardo la compagnia aerea Lufthansa. A partire dal 25 Aprile sara’ avviato un secondo collegamento dall’aeroporto di Ancona per Monaco di Baviera.  Sebbene questo potenziamento risponde principalmente ad esigenze economiche, essendo le Marche un territorio ricco di molte eccellenze imprenditoriali sempre più’ aperte ai mercati esteri, di fatto è indice di una maggiore visibilità acquisita dal nostro territorio anche in termini turistici.

…oltre ad uno dei distretti manifatturieri più importanti a livello nazionale. Il nostro territorio sta’ entrando nel cuore dei turisti più esigenti.

E se un famoso critico e storico d’arte, in occasione dell’ultima edizione della Bit (Borsa Internazionale Turismo) tenutasi a Milano lo scorso 13 febbraio ha dichiarato che:

“La bellezza delle Marche è la prova dell’esistenza di Dio”

…beh, io non posso aggiungere altro!

Neil e Terry Duarte: dal Texas alle Marche…per sentirsi veramente a casa!

Pur vivendo lontano dall’Italia, non dimentico mai le mie origini marchigiane e nonostante la nuova vita metropolitana mi affascini, sono sempre profondamente legata alla mia regione.

Durante la nostra sosta al B&B Vento di Rose di Monterubbiano, ho conosciuto la famiglia Duarte, una coppia di ospiti provenienti dal Texas, che ogni anno visitano le Marche.

Scambiare le mie esperienze di viaggio e di vita con Neil e Terry è stata un’emozione forte. Sentire quanto siano legati alle Marche e alle persone che vi hanno conosciuto nel corso degli anni…devo ammettere che ho provato nostalgia, e anche il desiderio di tornare a vivere stabilmente qui.

La regione Marche

La mia chiacchierata con questa straordinaria coppia, che ha trovato nelle Marche la destinazione per una vacanza perfetta, è cominciata con apprezzamento di Terry:

“Quando abbiamo scoperto le Marche nel 2012, sapevamo che saremmo tornati spesso perché c’è davvero tanta bellezza da vedere e soprattutto tanto da fare. Ad ogni nostro rientro abbiamo un elenco di luoghi da visitare, ma non riusciamo mai a completare la lista, perché troviamo sempre nuove cose da fare o da vedere di cui non eravamo nemmeno a conoscenza. Emidio {titolare del B&B Vento di Rose a Monterubbiano} è una guida eccellente! Credo che conosca tutti nel sud Marche ed organizza visite alle varie cantine, ai pastifici e produttori locali di ceramica; ognuno di loro e’ ‘nascosto’ in piccoli paesi nell’entroterra. Percorrere le starde tra le colline è sempre un’avventura.”

1) Che lavoro fate?

Siamo entrambi in pensione e viviamo nei pressi di Austin, Texas, negli Stati Uniti.

2) Quando vi siete interessati per la prima volta all’Italia?

Prima di andare in pensione, avevamo visitato diverse zone dell’Italia, tra cui le classiche visite turistiche “americane” a Roma e in Toscana. Ci è piaciuto molto il paesaggio, il cibo, il vino e la maggior parte delle persone incontrate. Abbiamo deciso che volevamo esplorare la vera Italia e il suo entroterra, non solo le città principali. Di conseguenza abbiamo iniziato a visitare altre regioni tra cui: Piemonte, Veneto, Friuli e Umbria.

3) Cosa vi ha portato nelle Marche?

Durante la nostra ricerca sulle varie zone d’Italia, abbiamo notato che c’erano molti riferimenti alla bellezza e alla cultura delle Marche. Un amico che vi era già’ stato diverse volte, ci raccomando’ fortemente di visitare questa regione. Di conseguenza ci siamo decisi a programmare un viaggio e scoprire noi stessi come fossero le Marche.

4) Quando è stata la vostra prima visita?

Il nostro primo viaggio nelle Marche è stato nel 2012. Abbiamo soggiornato in un agritursimo nella parte settentrionale delle Marche nei pressi di Gallo, poi ci siamo spostati presso il B&B Terra Mossa nei pressi di Poggio San Marcello ed infine presso l’Agritursimo Vento di Rose vicino a Monterubbiano.

5) Che cosa ne pensate delle Marche?

La prima cosa che ci ha colpito è stata la bellezza di questa regione. Il nostro primo arrivo e’ stato in primavera e tutto era così verde e vivo.

L’altra cosa e’ stata l’eccellenza della cucina marchigiana e del cibo locale. Ottimo pesce dall’Adriatico e deliziosi piatti a base di carne nell’entroterra. A completare l’offerta, eccellenti vini locali, sia rossi che bianchi.

6) Qual’e’ la motivazione del vostro ritorno nelle Marche ogni anno, dopo la prima scoperta nel 2012?

La campagna, il cibo e il vino sono tutti eccellenti, ma il motivo principale che ci fa’ tornare sono le persone. Nella varie parti d’Italia che abbiamo visitato la gente e’ sempre stata molto gentile, ma solo nelle Marche ci sentiamo veramente a casa.

7) Cosa diresti ad altri visitatori che stanno considerando un viaggio nelle Marche?

Se volete una piacevole vacanza in Italia, dovreste considerare le Marche: una regione non invasa da pullman di turisti, dove la gente è cordiale e disponibile, e sia il cibo che il vino hanno prezzi ragionevoli pur essendo assolutamente eccellenti!

Le Marche sono una delle nostre destinazioni preferite in assoluto ed ogni anno non vediamo l’ora di ritornarci!

Neil and Terry Duarte: from Texas to Le Marche…to really feel at home!

Even if I’m currently living away from Italy, I never forget my origin and my roots. Although my new urban life really fascinates me, I always feel deeply connected to my region: Le Marche.

During our stop at the B&B Vento di Rose in Monterubbiano, I met the Duarte’s, a couple of guests from Texas, who visit Le Marche every year. Exchanging my travel and life experiences with Neil and Terry was such a great emotion.

Getting to know how much they love the Marche and the people they’ve met here over the years…I must admit I started feeling homesick and the desire to come back to my town was tempting.

The Marche region

My conversation with this extraordinary couple, who have found in the Marche their destination for a perfect holiday, began with an appreciation from Terry:

“When we discovered Le Marche in 2012, we knew that we would be returning often since there is so much beauty to see and and so much to do. We always arrive with a list of places to visit and things to do, but we never make it through the list because we find other things to see or do that we didn’t even know about. Emidio {owner of the B&B Vento di Rose} is an excellent guide! I think he knows everyone in southern Marche and can arrange visits to wineries, pasta factories, pottery makers; all of which are tucked away in the beautiful countryside or in small towns. Riding along the back roads is always an adventure.”

So let’s get started and find out more about their feelings for Le Marche…

1) What do you do for a living today?

We are both retired and live near Austin, Texas in the USA.

2) When did you first become interested in Italy?

Before we retired, we had made several visits to various parts of Italy including the “standard” American tourist visit to Rome and Tuscany. We loved the scenery, the food, the wine and most of all the people. We decided that we wanted to explore the real Italy and see the countryside, not just the cities. As a result we began to visit various regions including Piedmont, Veneto, Friuli and Umbria.

3) Why did you visit Marche?

During our research about the various areas of Italy, we noted that there were a number of references to the beauty and culture of Marche. We also had a friend who had visited Marche several times and spoke very highly about the region. As a result we decided to plan a visit and see for ourselves what Marche was.

4) When was your initial visit?

Our first visit was in 2012. We stayed in an agritursimo in the northern part of Marche near Gallo, then drove to B&B Terra Mossa outside of Poggio San Marcello and finished at Agritursimo Vento di Rose outside of Monterubbiano.

5) What did you think of Marche?

The first thing that impressed us was the beauty of the region. We came in the spring and everything was so green and alive.

Next we noted the excellent food. If we wanted seafood, the Adriatic Coast was close and inland you found delicious meat dishes. Complementing these were the superb Marche wines, both red and white.

6) Since you have returned every year since 2012, what is the most important reason for your returns?

The countryside, food and wine are all excellent, but we return for the people. In most of the other parts of Italy that we have visited, the people have been very friendly, but in Marche we really felt at home.

As a hobby I write about Italian wines on http://www.wineloverspage.com/ and since our first visit to Marche our reception at various wineries has been most enjoyable. We now consider these people to be our good friends.

7) What would you tell other visitors considering Marche as a destination? 

If you want an enjoyable holiday in Italy you should consider Marche where you are not overrun by busloads of tourists, where the people are both friendly and helpful, and the food and wine reasonable and excellent.

Le Marche is one of our favorite places and we can’t wait to return over and over again!
